VibeOffice is a free, open-source office suite that runs in your browser in the style of Office 2003. It has three apps — a word processor, a spreadsheet and a presentation editor — and they open and save real Microsoft Office files without anything leaving your computer.
What you need
Nothing but a modern browser. Open vibeoffice.work — the Start Center — in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. There is no download, no account and no sign-in.
In Chrome or Edge you can also install it from the Start Center. It then behaves like a desktop app and can open .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files straight from your file manager.
The three apps
| App | What it is | Opens and saves |
|---|---|---|
| Quire | Word processor | .docx, .docm, .dotx, .dotm, .rtf, .htm, .txt, Markdown; PDF export |
| Ledger | Spreadsheet | .xlsx, .xlsm, .xltx, .xltm, .csv, XML Spreadsheet 2003; PDF export |
| Lectern | Presentations | .pptx, .pptm, .ppsx, .ppsm, .potx, .potm; PDF, PNG, .htm export |
Start at the Start Center: open a file, pick one from Recent Files, or create a document, spreadsheet or presentation from a blank page or a template.
Editing without regret
The point of VibeOffice is the round trip: edit a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file here, save it in the same format, and send it to someone who uses Microsoft Office. It should open for them without an error or a repair message, with your changes in place and everything else exactly as it was.
- What VibeOffice cannot edit yet, it keeps — VBA macros, embedded objects, SmartArt, video and audio, ink, 3-D models and custom XML are written back byte for byte.
- Edits change only what you changed, and edited content keeps its original names and IDs.
- If a save would drop something you would miss, the Compatibility Checker will warn you.
As always, keep a backup of anything important before you edit it.
Private by default
Everything runs on your machine. There is no server behind VibeOffice, no upload and no account, so your documents never leave your computer. That also means it keeps working offline once installed.
Contributing
VibeOffice is Apache-2.0 and written in plain HTML and JavaScript with no build step. If you find a file that doesn’t open or save the way it should, open an issue — real files that misbehave are exactly what the project is tested against.
